How Does Ultherapy Work? – Ultrasound Tech

Ultherapy has been in the market since it was approved for use back then in 2008 and with 1.5 million treatments done worldwide, it’s a clear cut winner in the quest for tightening lax skin without any form of incision or surgery done. It has also acquired the CE Mark in Europe and is approved for use in Singapore by the HSA. Read More Here.

Ultherapy can only be performed by trained aesthetic doctors. Using medical grade High Intensive Focused Ultrasound (HIFU) technology, it targets collagen layers deep below one’s skin with carefully tuned ultrasonic energy and all this being monitored visually in real-time with ultrasound imaging technology. This allows our doctors to visually see and precisely target and deliver the adequate amount of heat to the exact skin layers for improved treatment results.

This heat energy generated consistently reaches at around 65°C which is the optimal temperature needed to stimulate and activate our skin’s natural healing process by targeting muscles and deep tissue to start regenerating and rebuilding our foundational SMAS (Superficial Muscular Aponeurotic System) structure and framework. This is the layer that lifts and support our skin’s tissue. Like how pillars and deep foundations support buildings, a revitalised SMAS layer that has been stimulated by the heat generated from Ultherapy will allow us to get to the root of your aging problem by strengthening the skin from within.

Targets SMAS Layer – Similar to Plastic Surgery

Being able to target this SMAS layer is critical as this is the exact layer targeted in cosmetic surgery by plastic surgeons. The cells targeted in this layer start to release growth proteins, collagen and elastin, resulting in skin layers being strengthened as more collagen is being produced naturally over 90-180 days and thus lifting and tightening any saggy or lax skin tissue. Collagen as a structural protein helps to maintain skin firmness, laxity and elasticity by holding it in place, firming up sagging and droopy skin, improving fine lines and wrinkles naturally and gradually over time.

“The cells targeted in this layer start to release growth proteins, collagen and elastin.”

In the past, only costly, painful and invasive surgery was able to target the SMAS layer but this can now be achieved with Ultherapy, all without the hassle of open surgery and also helps in overall dermatological sculpting and lifting. There isn’t a need to go under the knife anymore with Ulltherapy. Besides penetrating right down to the SMAS layer, Ultherapy is able to target multiple skin layers from the epidermis, right down to the SMAS layer and is also able to reach muscle tissue from depths of 1.5mm to 4.5mm. Costs vs Efficacy.

Substantial research studies have been done on the efficacy of Ultherapy and the ultrasound technology that it is based on has also been recognised as a safe medical treatment that has been in use for over 50 years. Read more here.
