“Skin problems are more than superficial beauty concerns.”

But as we age so will our skin and this is much more apparent with the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, sagging skin, skin tags. Skin becomes thinner, frailer and more susceptible to injury and bruising. Your skin serves as the front line of defense against the onslaught of bacteria, UV rays, environmental pollutants and it is when this defense is broken, then will you start experiencing skin problems and disorders. Skin problems are more than superficial beauty concerns.

What does your skin do?

  • Besides protecting you from the environment, your skin:
  • Protects you against foreign pathogens
  • Consists of nerve endings and receptors
  • Blood vessels
  • Allows you to feel pain, pressure, touch and controls your body temperature

Skin Layers

The skin has a multitude of layers but can be divided into 3 layers:

  • Epidermis – Most visible outermost layer, protects the other layers. Contains cells that make fibrous protein called keratin – waterproofs the skin, giving it a hard texture (hair, skin, nails). Melanin – that gives us our skin colour/pigmentation.
  • Dermis – Contains collagen, nerve endings, blood vessels, oil (sebum) glands, hair follicles, elastin, sweat glands. Provides our skin with flexibility, support and strength.
  • Hypodermis – Contains adipose tissue (fat cells) to help our body regulate temperature, protects our organs from damage and attaches the dermis layer to our muscles and bones.

“Botox, Xeomin and Dysport are popular

Neuromodulators.”

Sun exposure without adequate protection results in pigmentation problems and increases the rate of our skin drying out as fat layers are reduced. This results in a less plump, youthful look. As we age, our skin also renews itself at a slower rate and starts to lose its elasticity, accentuating wrinkles, starts to sag, crowfeet forming around the eyes and overall, causing other aging-related features to be more pronounced. Growing old isn’t the problem itself but finding an experienced aesthetic doctor is – and within an affordable price that fits your budget. The panel of doctors here at Dr Cindy’s Medical Aesthetics knows how to delicately walk the fine lines and smooth out the furrows of your aging concerns. Botox is a treatment that is synonymous with anti-aging treatment but not many know that Botox (a brand name) along with Dysport and Xeomin are popular Neuromodulators. They all serve to reduce the appearance of wrinkles, fine lines, crowfeet caused by muscle movement (facial expression). Read more about other ways to reduce wrinkles.

1- Botox / Dysport / Xeomin

Botox, Dysport & Xeomin are of the same class of treatment, Neuromodulaters. The most popular of which is Botulinum Neurotoxin Type A or better known as Botox is a natural, purified protein used to relax the muscles on targeted areas and soften the appearance of fine lines and deep wrinkles on the face, neck and around the eye area. It paralyzes targeted muscle nerves, preventing movement and even out those wrinkles. It’s a simple non-surgical procedure that has been used for decades. Effects are best seen on dynamic wrinkles such as crowfeet, forehead lines and glabellar frown lines that are formed during facial expression. It can also be used to slim down a broad squarish jawline too.

2 – Dermal Fillers

As we age, our skin loses collagen as well as hyaluronic acid. Sunken areas, wrinkles and lines can appear because of this facial volume loss from muscle, fats and bone. Dermal Fillers are one of the best solutions to replenish the continuous aging loss. There are different fillers to be used that depends on your skin and ageing concerns. Our doctors will assess and recommend the most suitable filler(s) and understand your expectations to best select the type of filler needed. Which treatments are for me? Read more here.

  1. Hydration fillers/Skin-boosters
  2. Collagen-boosting fillers
  3. Volumizing fillers
  4. Structural fillers

The fillers are Hyaluronic Acid-based and poly-L-lactic acid based. Hyaluronic Acid fillers add volume by drawing in moisture, while poly-L-lactic acid based fillers stimulate collagen to recover skin elasticity, smoothen lines and wrinkles thus restoring youthfulness. Hyaluronic Acid is a natural substance (a complex sugar) that stabilizes the skin structure, attracts and binds water, and contributes to the elastic properties of the skin that allow it to remain tight. Injection of Hyaluronic acid into the skin can help replenish its natural support structures damaged by ageing. Skin quality is greatly boosted with the hydrating effects of hyaluronic acid as well as the collagen increase with poly-L-lactic acid.

4 – Ultherapy

This non-invasive facial lifting gives you results that sustain for up to 12 months.  With results lasting from up to six to 12 months after one treatment, this non-invasive FDA-approved procedure for facial-lifting is perfect for the sort who don’t have the patience to visit the clinic every other month during lunchtime for a quick lifting boost. The technology uses focused ‘ultrasound’ heating at a precise depth of skin to trigger lifting and tightening without the need for surgery. Unlike lasers, which penetrate the skin from the outside-in, Ultherapy bypasses the surface of the skin, ensuring minimal downtime and little scarring. By stimulating the support layers deep without the skin, the regenerative response is triggered, and the new collagen that is produced can lift and tighten the skin over time.

All skin types can be treated safely, and Ultherapy can be used for the lifting of the neck, under the chin and on the eyebrow, and also used to shape and contour saggy and loose skin. The procedure itself takes no time at all in the clinic, and you’ll get to walk back to the office feeling uplifted as you feel the natural process of growing new, elastic collagen take effect over time.
