Keto Diets – Fact or Myth?

5 Min Read – The keto diet promises weight loss on a high-fat diet, which sounds attractive to many. But we must caution that this fad diet has many risks, one of which is the “bad” fats found in red meat, poultry skin, and cheese can lead to an increased risk of heart disease.

Keto diets are often marked by periods of weight loss but are often unsustainable resulting in a “yo-yo” effect. As a matter of fact, most government health promotions focusing on adopting healthy diets not only in Singapore but around the world do not recommend a high fat, low carb diet.

Nutritional guidelines recommended by government agencies around the world do not ascribe to the Keto Diet. Clinical studies are also inconclusive on the long-term benefits of Keto Diets. One has to take into account that government agencies have access to extensive clinical research from all over the world and will use that research to guide public information campaigns. On the flip side, clinical studies have also shown the benefits of low carb, high-fat diet for certain conditions such as seizures in children.

Rather than focusing on fad diets, adopt a holistic and balanced lifestyle in your diet and exercise regime. Here are some tips from the Singapore Health Promotion Board on a sensible diet: Click here. Sometimes we all need a little help with reducing fats and losing weight, and this is where we can come in with our suite of non-surgical body contouring treatments such as cryolipolysis, laser-based lipolysis, or electromagnetic muscle stimulation.
